Das StuPa unterstützt die Idee freier Software gemäß der Definition der Free Software Foundation (http://www.fsf.org/philosophy/free-sw.de.html), denn freie Software uterstützt unserer Meinung nach in praktischer Hinsicht die Einrichtung stabiler, sicherer Systeme zu einem guten Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis; darüber hinaussteht sie aber auch für einige Tugenden, die sich ebenso in der Studierendenvertretung widerspiegeln:

  • Engagement und Einsatz ohne Profitdenken
  • Hilfe untereinander durch Vernetzung und gegenseitige Bereitstellung von Know-How
  • Flexibilität und Unabhängigkeit

Der UStA sollte daher bei zukünftigen Anschaffungen im Bereich der Soft- und Hardware [4] freie Software bevorzugt behandeln und auf proprietäre Lösungen nur im Notfall zurückgreifen.

Auch wenn freie Software kostenlos erhältlich ist, sollte der UStA die Entwicklung freier Software finanziell unterstützen, z.B. durch Spenden.

Falls für die UStA-Arbeit entwickelte Software veröffentlicht wird, so muss dies unter einer freien Lizenz gemäß der Definition der Free Software Foundation (http://www.gnu.org/licenses/license-list.html) veröffentlicht werdenm außer das StuPa entscheidet im Einzelfall etwas anderes [3].

Der UStA sollte dieses Verhalten auch bei anderen Einrichtungen und Organisationen fordern und fördern, z.B. bei der Universität Karlsruhe, der lak Baden-Württemberg und dem fzs.

[4] Im Antrag ist sonst nur von Software die Rede, aber auch Hardware-Entscheidungen beeinflussen die Möglichkeiten des Einsatzes von freier Software. Beispiele sind Winmodems und sogenannte GDI-Drucker.
