Am 1. April 2014 soll die Novellierung Landeshochschulgesetzes (LHG) im Landtag beschlossen werden. Im Landeshochschulgesetz werden für die Studierenden wichtige Dinge geregelt wie zum Beispiel Zulassungsbedinungen, die maximale Studiendauer oder die Mitbestimmungsrechte der Studis an ihrer Hochschule. Neben dem Landeshochschulgesetz gibt es noch weitere Gesetze, die das Studium regeln, zum Beispiel das Studentenwerksgesetz oder das Landesgebührengesetz. Eine Gesetzesreform bietet für die Studierendenschaft immer das Risiko, dass bisherige Regelungen für die Studierendenschaft nachteilig geändert werden, aber auch die Chance, Forderungen umzusetzen. Wichtige Forderungen sind

• mehr studentische Mitbestimmung in den Gremien der Hochschule
• Gebührenfreiheit des Studiums
• Masterplatzgarantie
• Einführung der Zivilklausel

Im Gesetzesänderungsentwurf sind ausführliche Änderungen an den Gesetzen vorgesehen. Sowohl die Landes-ASten-Konferenz als auch die Studierendenschaft des KTI haben dazu Stellung bezogen, siehe Ausführliche Stellungnahme der Landesstudierendenvertretung zum Gesetzesänderungsentwurf des Kultusministeriums und Stellungnahme der Studierendenschaft des KIT zum Novellenentwurf. Die Reaktionen blieben nicht folgenlos, so geriet die Landesregierung in heftige Kritik über die Einführung verpflichtender Gebühren für Einstufungstests und zog diese Idee danach zurück.

On April 1, 2014, the amendment of the State Higher Education Act (LHG) is scheduled to be passed in the state parliament. The State Higher Education Act regulates important matters for students, such as admission requirements, the maximum duration of studies, and students' participation rights at their universities. In addition to the Higher Education Act, there are other laws that govern university studies, such as the Student Services Act or the State Fees Act. A reform of the law always carries the risk that existing provisions beneficial to students may be changed to their disadvantage, but it also presents an opportunity to implement demands. Key demands include:

• more student participation in university committees
• tuition-free education
• guaranteed Master's program admission
• introduction of a civil clause

The draft amendment of the law includes extensive changes to the legislation. Both the State Student Council Conference (LAK) and the student body of KIT have issued statements on this, see detailed statement by the State Student Representation on the draft amendment by the Ministry of Education and statement by the student body of KIT on the draft amendment. The reactions did not go unnoticed, and the state government faced strong criticism over the introduction of mandatory fees for placement tests, ultimately withdrawing the proposal.
